4F-PHP belongs to the class of chemicals known as substituted cathinones.

The substituted cathinones are a series of compounds which feature a phenethylamine backbone with a ketone at the beta carbon and various alkyl moieties substituted at the alpha carbon adjacent to the amine.

4F-PVP and ?-PHP have a butyl substitute at the alpha carbon. This confers increased lipohpilicity to these particular cathinones. The nitrogen itself is transformed in to a pyrrolidine moiety as it forms a five member ring with four other carbons.
